Inside Me

Yesterday, I had a ball waking up and spending a little time with Meredith (my wife) and my son, Jay.

For several minutes, Jay and I were bonding our relationship as I said things that sounded silly, and Jay would smile or coo back. It's really incredible how much that truly means to you as a new Dad. And Jay is getting to the point where he is be coming more and more responsive. He is truly a little man, and it's fun to watch that person come to life!

Since it was so fun, and wonderful, at lunch time, I left the office and started driving home. I HAD to see my family. There was this innate desire to be there with them. I didn't want to be away from them. I couldn't stand it any longer.

So, I drove, and on the way there, I talked to Meredith, who didn't know that I was coming home for a quick lunch. When I was about 5 minutes from the house, Meredith said she was getting ready to go inside, and all I could say was, "Do you mind staying outside for a few more minutes?" "You're almost here?" she asked.

I arrived, and we had a wonderful time holding Jay in his new "favorite" spot...underneath the maple tree in the back corner of our yard. It kept him shaded and cool while he looked around, and continued to discover new things. Flat out incredible. I was only there for 20 minutes, but it was 20 minutes that I will remember for a long time to come.

I love being a husband, and a Dad.
